There will be two presenters for the evening : Margaret River Geologist and environmentalist Peter Lane followed by Dr Greg Glazov from Doctors for the Environment.
Peter Lane discusses the history and environmental, social and economic impacts of fracking and CSG, specifically in respect to climate change, water, land access and use. He reviews the geology of the SW to highlight those areas with both the potential and lack of potential for gas production and fracking and the environmental and social consequences that would likely follow. The potential for the SW to turn to reduced carbon and then carbon free power generation is also discussed. Dr Greg Glazov graduated in Medicine from UWA in 1980. He has been many years in general practice. He has a Diploma and Masters in Family Medicine from Monash and is now finishing a PhD at UWA. He is an active member of Doctors for the Environment Australia and is very concerned about the consequences of damage to the environment and our health from the burning of fossil fuels and climate change. In the last 3 years Dr Glazov has given many presentations to communities on the potentially serious health effects of the emerging unconventional gas industry. |
